O2Micro Issued Battery Power Patent 6,246,215
SANTA CLARA, Calif. & GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman--(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 28, 2001--O2Micro International Limited (Nasdaq:OIIM - news), a leading supplier of innovative power management ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, has been granted 28 claims under United States patent number 6,246,215 for its Buffer Battery Power Supply System.
``O2Micro is using this advanced patented technology to develop faster, more efficient charging ICs for next generation cellular phones and other battery operated systems,'' said Jack Shyr, vice president of the Intelligent Power Group.
The Buffer Battery Power Supply System provides a measurement scheme to monitor power delivered to the active system, ensuring system-power integrity. This integrated circuit provides a smooth, analog method of shifting available power first to the active system then to the battery as needed. The circuit guarantees that all power not utilized by the active system is used to charge the battery, providing faster battery charging times and maximum battery charge capacity. In addition, the measurement and control circuitry in the IC guarantee that battery power and current limits are not exceeded, thus assuring maximum battery safety.
``The award of this patent adds to the ever expanding intellectual property portfolio of O2Micro, and extending the useable time between battery charges brings more enjoyment to users of handheld devices,'' stated Sterling Du, CEO and chairman of O2Micro.
Founded in March 1995, O2Micro designs, develops and markets innovative power management and security components for mobile communication, computer, Internet appliance, and LCD products. Products include AudioDJ(TM), SmartCardBus® for secure on line e-commerce, LCD Backlight Inverters and Battery Management ICs.
