SANTA CLARA, Calif. & GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003--O2Micro® International Limited (Nasdaq:OIIM - News), a leading supplier of innovative power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, announced the grant of a limited, non-exclusive license to Ricoh Company, Ltd. for its Card Detection technology (U.S. Patent Number 6,470,284, Taiwan Patent Number 155,891).

O2Micro's Card Detection technology allows a user-friendly, real plug-n-play environment for popular flash media cards working with the PCMCIA card slot. It gives PC OEM's the option to use low cost, passive adapters to extend the value of the existing PCMCIA card slot, and enable a regular notebook computer as a digital multimedia hub or for secure internet commerce.

This patented card detection technology is implemented in O2Micro's 4-in-1 MemoryCardBus(TM) (OZ711M series) family of CardBus Controllers. It enables advanced CardBus controllers to automatically detect and communicate with popular flash media cards (SD Memory Card, Memory Stick(TM), MultiMediaCard (MMC) and SmartMedia(TM)), in addition to 16- and 32-bit PC Cards.
